Mapping Colors? |
|
It has come to my attention that in addition to using the official mapping colors to depict the income characteristics of a tract, institutions might want to customize these colors. Are a lot of you using custom colors for mapping? Our institution does use custom colors for mapping. We have found that depending on your color printer, sometimes the greens are hard to distinguish. I use all custom colors for mapping. I'm not a big fan of the official colors. I would not recommend using red in any mapping. Too much negative connotation to that. Steve marshall ADI Consulting No reds, but some yellows and purples really make LMI tracts pop out. We use custom colors: green for upper, yellow for middle, pink for moderate and orange for low. The history of the colors we use is a funny story (ok, compliance-geeky funny). Way back when we were manually making our maps, these were the only colors of highlighter markers in the drawer! I'm always hesitant about answering the question "and what methodology did you employ to determine the colors you use?". [:)] |
